Mission Impossible 4 shooted in Bangalore?

Was Mission Impossible 4 shooted in Bangalore? Was Tom Cruise in Bangalore for Mission Impossible 4?

Tom Cruise is out on a street just off Cubbon Road. From where he stands, you can make out a B-trac board and gantry signs in Kannada. Look closely and you can even make out a garish Sandalwood poster. What, Cruise shooting in Bangalore, that too near M G Road? When?

Okay, before you get a coronary, we will let you in on the secret. No, Cruise did not come to Bangalore. The B-trac board bearing Kannada inscriptions is just a prop. It is not a Bangalore road you see; it is in Vancouver, Canada. The makers of Mission Impossible (MI)-4 Ghost Protocol have recreated a mini Bangalore on the sets at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

There have been talks in movie circles about the cast and crew of MI-4 coming to the city to shoot some scenes, but it has not happened yet. It’s the first time a big-budget Hollywood movie will be featuring Bangalore.

At first glance, the sets at the Vancouver Convention Centre look almost authentic. Then slowly, you notice the give-aways: The smooth roads of Vancouver instead of Bangalore’s pot-holed streets; spelling errors in the Kannada signages; posters of imaginary Kannada blockbusters plastered on the walls.

You would have fallen for a near-perfect yellow signboard, proclaiming a road as Kamaraj Road, both in English and Kannada, had it not been for an overhead signage telling you to take right from Kamaraj Road to reach MG Road.
Environment lovers of the city will have to thank the producers of MI-4 for letting the world know that Bangalore is not just the IT capital of India; it is also the City of Gardens. Illuminated advertising boards, which were once there on M G Road proclaiming Bangalore as the Garden City, have been replicated on the sets.

Praveen Sood, additional commissioner of police (traffic) should be happy to see the B-trac board prominently featured. Maybe, he would be hoping that MI-4 will inspire more people to abide by traffic rules.
