The alleged deal struck between Janardhan Reddy and a CBI court judge who was suspended has been turning murky, with the CBI hot on the money trail. The Central Bureau of Investigation which has the go ahead from the Andhra Pradesh High Court to probe this bribery scam is looking closely at the manner in which the money changed hands as a result of which an astonishing sum allegedly reached the judge based on which bail to Janardhan Reddy was allegedly granted.

The CBI has managed to pull out several names in this case and in this regard a special team of the agency even questioned Janardhan Reddy who is currently lodged in the Bangalore Central Jail.

The initial round of investigations show that the total amount involved in this transaction amounted to nearly Rs 60 crore. In all Reddy was to pay Rs 10crore to the judge at Andhra Pradesh, but as a first installment just Rs 5 crore was paid and the same was even seized by the CBI.

Investigations also show that a former minister from Andhra Pradesh acted as a middle man in this deal and he is said to have made arrangement to allegedly approach the judge and persuade him into granting bail to Janardhan Reddy who is being probed by the CBI in the multi crore illegal mining scam. Investigators also point out that the money could have been handed over to the middle man by a member of the Reddy family following which it was taken to Andhra Pradesh and the judge allegedly bribed.

Reddy was arrested by the CBI first for his role in the mining scam and this case is known as the Obulapuram Mining case. It has been alleged that Reddy obtained a license for this company to mine in Andhra Pradesh but used the same to mine illegally in Karnataka as well. A couple of months after this case was probed the CBI even booked him in cases pertaining to Karnataka. After the questioning of Reddy was completed in AP, he was brought down to the Bangalore jail and is being questioned over here.

Reddy moved the AP court seeking bail and was even granted the same. He immediately moved the Karnataka court as well and if he had been granted bail that would have meant that he walked out of jail.

However after the AP CBI court granted him bail, the CBI immediately moved the Andhra Pradesh High Court which stayed the order of the CBI court. In addition to this the CBI also told the AP High Court about the cash seizure from the house of the judge and also added that there were conversations to indicate that there was something fishy. The High Court which found substance in the CBI argument placed the judge under suspension and also ordered his prosecution after an investigation.

The investigations so far make it clear that there was not only this judge who was involved in this entire scam. The names of former ministers, MLAs and also a journalist has been cropping up. Investigators say that Reddy planned on investing a total of Rs 60 crore for this operation and wanted to ensure that he walked free on bail. It is also alleged that they tried to approach the judge in Bangalore as well to ensure that he was granted bail, but that did not materialize.

The CBI believes that the money has already been distributed and is currently trying to locate the rest of the money. They have questioned Reddy in the Bangalore jail and will also question some of his family members and associates in Bellary, Karnataka. While the CBI says it is very serious about cracking this case, some members of Reddy’s family are alleged to be absconding as they fear being arrested by the officials of the CBI.

Reddy finds himself in a spot of bother as the noose is getting too tight for him to handle. The investigations that have been conducted in both the OMC case and the Associated Mining Case in Karnataka have led the CBI to get ample proof against him. He has been languishing in jail for over a year now and appears to be desperate to walk.
